Berg Residence

A minimalist coastal residence defined by cantilevered form, standing-seam metal cladding, and clean modern geometry

Berg Residence

This contemporary residence concept in San Clemente explores a minimalist architectural language defined by bold massing, material contrast, and structural expression. The design is organized around a strong horizontal volume that appears to float above the ground plane, creating a dramatic cantilevered form that frames the entry and covered parking below.

The upper level is clad in dark standing-seam metal, establishing a crisp monolithic presence that contrasts with the lighter structural base. Narrow clerestory windows introduce controlled natural light while preserving privacy from the street. This restrained façade treatment emphasizes proportion, rhythm, and shadow rather than ornament.

At the ground level, the architecture becomes more open and grounded through exposed concrete elements, clean stucco surfaces, and integrated landscape design. Native and drought-tolerant plantings soften the geometry of the structure while reinforcing the coastal Southern California context.

The composition prioritizes clarity of form and efficiency of space, resulting in a residence that feels both sculptural and pragmatic. The project reflects a disciplined contemporary approach — balancing minimalism, durability, and contextual responsiveness within a compact urban footprint.
